The first call is often the hardest one to make.
Family enquiries arrive at difficult moments, frequently outside office hours, and the person calling has usually rehearsed the call once already before it connects.
Request demoWhat a missed enquiry costs here
A family enquiry is rarely a shopping exercise. Somebody has worked up to making the call, often more than once, and a voicemail tone is enough to end the attempt. They may not ring a competitor. They may not ring anyone for another month, by which point the situation has moved and so has their view of your firm. The cost here is not only a lost instruction, it is the impression left on somebody who will talk about how they were treated.
What Cam asks first.
The capture model is the same for every firm. What changes by area is which answers are worth having before anybody rings back.
- What has happened, at whatever level of detail the caller wants to give, without pressing.
- Whether children are involved, because it changes urgency and who should pick it up.
- Whether there is any immediate safety concern, which stops the ordinary flow and escalates.
- How and when it is safe to make contact, which in this area is not a formality.
What actually changes for this practice area.
Not a different AI. The same Cam, working the front door and the fee-earner's own line, applied where it matters most for this kind of work.
01
After-hours coverage, so an evening or weekend call doesn't just ring out.
02
A calm, consistent first response every time, regardless of how busy the desk is that day.
03
Context captured once and passed on, so the caller isn't asked to repeat the same details to every person they speak to.
04
Repeat callers recognised from their record, so a client mid-proceedings hears the last conversation acknowledged rather than being asked to start again.
One call, start to finish.
01
The call
A first-time caller rings at 21:15. They have never spoken to a solicitor. They start by apologising for calling late.
02
What Cam does
Cam answers calmly, discloses what he is, and lets them say it in their own order. He captures the situation, whether children are involved, and crucially how it is safe to make contact and when. If anything in the call indicates immediate danger, the ordinary intake stops and the emergency path takes over.
03
What you get
In the morning there is a structured note rather than a thirty-second voicemail, including the contact rule the caller set. Nobody has to ring a number that is not safe to ring.
FAQ
Family law questions
Is it appropriate to have AI answer a distressed caller?
- It is more appropriate than a voicemail tone, which is the honest alternative at 21:15. Cam says what he is at the start of every call rather than letting somebody assume they are talking to a person, he does not push for detail, and he hands off to a human path the moment a call indicates risk. Firms that are not comfortable with this on the front door commonly run family enquiries human-first with Cam covering only after hours.
What happens if a caller mentions immediate danger?
- There is a deterministic safety layer that does not depend on the model deciding to behave. It runs on the caller's own words, and when it trips the assistant stops and the caller is given the emergency line. That check is in the call path itself rather than in a prompt, which is the difference between a safeguard and a hope.
Can a client's file be kept away from the rest of the firm?
- Yes. Meeting notes and matter access are per-person rather than firm-wide by default, and adding a colleague to a matter does not hand them the attendance notes on it. In family work that separation is usually the reason a firm agrees to log anything at all.
What WasilX doesn’t do here
WasilX doesn't make legal judgments or offer guidance on someone's situation. It captures contact details, matter category, and urgency, and routes to a person for anything that needs one.
